Obverse

in the center - the indication of the face value of the coin in two lines: "2 РУБЛЯ" (2 RUBLES), lower - the inscription "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA), under it - the date "2000", to the left and to the right - a stylized twig of a plant.

Reverse

soldiers during an attack, to the right - the Gold Star Medal, a destroyed house, in the background - outlines of a flaming city on the shore of a river, at the bottom - the inscription along the rim: "СТАЛИНГРАД" (STALINGRAD).

The city of Stalingrad was called in the Order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief on May 1, 1945 as one of the first hero cities. According to the Regulations of the title of hero cities, adopted on May 8, 1965, the highest distinction class "Hero City" accompanied by the awarding with the Lenin Order and the Gold Star Medal has been conferred on the city of Stalingrad for the mass heroism and courage of its defenders displayed in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War.
